A verdict
Noun
A decision on an issue of fact in a civil or criminal case
Example: The jury reached a unanimous verdict of guilty.

Balance the books
Phrase
To make certain that the amount of money spent is not more than the amount of money received.
Example: If the business loses any more money, we won't be able to balance the books this year.

Burden of proof
Noun/ Phrase
The duty to prove disputed facts. In civil cases, a plaintiff generally has the burden of proving his or her case. In criminal cases, the government has the burden of proving the defendant's guilt.
Example: The burden of proof in a civil case is not as stringent as in criminal cases

Carbon footprint
Noun
A measure of the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of a particular individual, organization, or community.
Example: Switching to renewables is a way of reducing one's carbon footrpint.

Certification
Noun
The procedure by which a third party grants written assurance that a product conforms to specific requirements.
Example: Fairtrade is a certification that guarantees producers in the developing world are paid a fair price for their crops.

Noun
A person or company that takes messages, letters, or parcels from one person or place to another.
Example: I want to have this package delivered by motorcycle courier.

Noun
A sum of money claimed or awarded in compensation for a loss or an injury.
Example: They want the rival company to withdraw the product and pay damages.

Verb
To send something, especially goods or a message, somewhere for a particular purpose.
Example: Two loads of cloth were dispatched to the factory on December 5th.

Verb
To use authority, power or influence to make something happen
Example: Some managers exert considerable pressure on their staff to work extra hours without being paid.

Force majeure
Noun
Unforeseeable circumstances that prevent someone from fulfilling a contract.
Example: Force majeure is a provision in a contract that frees both parties from obligation if an extraordinary event directly prevents one or both parties from performing.

A network of electrical components deployed to supply, transfer, and use electric power.
Example: The power system shut down.

The basic material from which a product is made.
Example: Their prices went up because the cost of raw materials was going up.

Phrase
The ability and right for a participant to quit an experiment at any time.
Example: He didn't know he had the right to wirthdraw from the competition.

To be as white as a sheet
Phrase
If someone is as white as a sheet, their face is very pale, usually because of illness, shock, or fear.
Example: She was as white as a sheet when somebody broke into her house.

Trial
Noun
A formal examination of evidence by a judge, typically before a jury, in order to decide guilt in a case of criminal or civil proceedings.
